US Port Labor Dispute
This is to inform you of an ongoing situation at the largest ports on the U.S. East Coast, including New York/New Jersey, where preparations for a potential strike by the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) are underway. This strike, set to potentially begin on October 1st, stems from unresolved labor contract negotiations over wages and the use of automation in port operations. The ILA has expressed strong opposition to automation systems that could reduce jobs, and if a resolution is not reached, significant disruptions could occur.
This would affect several major ports critical to international trade, creating delays in shipments, congestion, and additional costs, such as demurrage and detention charges. The strike could cause substantial delays in moving goods, affecting not only imports and exports but also the wider supply chain, particularly as we enter peak shipping season.
We are hopeful that negotiations will result in a swift resolution before the October deadline, and we will continue to keep you informed.
Thank you for your understanding, and please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
